Music has been described as the “soundtrack” to our lives. It brings back many memories - “your song” may evoke all kinds of emotion!
Like many Baby Boomers, I went to sleep at night with a transistor radio by my pillow - by day I stacked up records on my turntable - any extra cash I earned was spent to buy vinyl records.
I received a stack of scratched 33rpm records one day from a young friend. They were in no shape to be put on my turntable, but I didn't want to throw them out. To honor my friends’ gift and spare the local landfill a few items, I began to create nostalgic vinyl record clock art.
Through exploration and experimentation, I search wherever I go for discarded metal, wood, and pictures from salvage yards and second-hand shops to match the spirit and feel of nostalgic vinyl. Once I’ve made the connection, I create one of a kind time machines.
My sense of humor and wordplay many times guide the direction of my pieces. For example, an old tennis racquet might be the perfect fit for an old 45, “The Game of Love”, or an old surfboard might showcase a long-forgotten Beach Boys album.
I love to trigger a smile or fond memory by collaborating with you, the buyer, in creating custom commissioned pieces.
I use every size of vinyl records ever made, 45, 33, and 78rpm records. I even have a small stash of red vinyl MUZAK records that are 17" in diameter.
I love the English language and enjoy playing with words. Some of my work is whimsical - others are just my love of classic rock and the challenge of connecting a record with a piece of metal, wood, or other discarded item.
